Cause of Fire at South Maple Street House is Undetermined

The cause of the house fire that claimed the life of a dog and cat remains undetermined at this time.   The Kewanee Fire Department arrived to 300 block of South Maple Street to find the back part of the roof fully engulfed in flames.  According to Fire Chief Welgat, there were no people in the residence at the time of the fire.  The house was supposed to be empty since the tenant was recently evicted.   The Kewanee Fire Department and the Illinois Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire and the investigation is ongoing.  According to the Kewanee Police Department, no charges are being filed at this time for the drug paraphernalia reportedly found in the residence after the fire was extinguished.
