    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Heat impacts will be worsened by several consecutive days of sweltering temperatures. Additionally, there will be little relief overnight with near record warm lows forecast in the mid to upper 70s.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Chicago Man Arrested on Gun Charges from Early Morning Shooting

A Chicago man was arrested on gun charges after two people were shot in a overnight shooting in Kewanee.  On October 1, 2023, around 3:30 AM, the Kewanee Police Department was dispatched to the 400 block of North Lakeview Avenue for a male subject with a gunshot wound.  According to the press release, officers arrived to find numerous individuals involved in a disturbance prior to the shooting.  Officers located a male subject lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the left chest area.  The Kewanee Fire Department transported the male subject to OSF St. Luke, where he was transported to OSF St. Francis by Life Flight.  Officers also located a second victim with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder from the same incident.  The individual was transported to OSF St. Luke and treated and released.

The Kewanee Police Department, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police conducted an investigation into the incident. The Illinois State Police also conducted the crime scene investigation. Officers reviewed surveillance footage, interviewed witnesses and collected evidence. Officers identified the suspect as Javon Porter 36,  of Chicago and arrested him without incident at a residence in Kewanee. Porter was transported to the Henry County Jail on preliminary charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4), Aggravated Battery (Class 4), and two charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony). The Class X Felony carries a potential sentence of 6 to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with this incident.
