Colona Man Charged for the Murder of his Child Opts for a Bench Trial

The Colona man charged with battering his 14-month-daughter causing her death has waived a Jury Trial and will have a Bench Trial in early 2024.  Rahsaan Strawder has been in custody of the Henry County Jail since January of 2022 on a $1,000,000 bond.  At his status hearing on October 2, 2023, Strawder Plead Not Guilty and signed a waiver of a Jury Trial.   A five day Bench Trial is scheduled for March 4th to March 8th, 2024.  A status hearing is scheduled for November 28, 2023, at 11:30 AM.  The State requested the defendant be admonished on the notice of enhanced sentencing.   An enhanced sentence for a Class M Felony is 60 to 100 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Rahsaan Strawder is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder (Class M Felony), 2 counts of Aggravated Batter to a child under 13 (Class X Felony) and Aggravated Battery (Amended to Class 3 Felony).  Mr. Strawder is alleged to have battered a 14 month female child causing her death on January 27, 2022.
