Court Updates for Week of October 30, 2023

Justin Kirchner:  Justin Kirchner remains in custody on a $500,000 (10%) bond.  The motion for an expert witness to be appointed at the Stat’s expense is scheduled for November 2, 2023.  The court found Kirchner to be a real and present threat to the safety of the community and denied the Defense request for pre-trial release.  The defense indicated their intent to appeal the pre-trial release decision.  An appellate Defender was appointed.  The petition for exoneration of bond monies was denied so bond money will not be returned.  The Motion Hearing was rescheduled to November 2, 2023, at 2:30 PM.  Kirchner is charged with Aggravated DUI causing a Death (Class 2 Felony), DUI Any Amount of Drug (Class A Misdemeanor) plus traffic tickets for case 2022CF301.  Kirchner is charged with Possession of Meth <5 Grams (Class 3 Felony), Driving on Suspended License (Class A Misdemeanor), Plus traffic citations for case 2023CF92.  Kirchner is charged with Driving on Suspended License (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023MT28.  Kirchner is charged with Aggravated Fleeing/21 MPH Over (Class 4 Felony), Aggravated Fleeing/2+ Control Devices (Class 4 Felony) and Reckless Driving (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CF238.  Read more here.

Jordan Jones:  Jordan Jones remains in custody.  Jordan Jones waived his Preliminary Hearing and Formal Arraignment.  A Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for November 16, 2023, at 1 PM. At the Detention hearing, the State said one of the victims required stitches and they don’t know if he will comply with restrictions if release.  Attorney Bruce Carmen said this is Mr. Jones’s first felony charge and he plans to live nowhere near where the incident occurred.  Judge Hathaway said Jordan Jones will remain in custody.  Jordan Jones is charged with two Counts of Aggravated Battery/Victim 60+ (Class 3 Felony), four Counts of Aggravated Battery/Public Place (Class 3 Felony) and Aggravated Battery/Greater Bodily Harm (Class 3 Felony).  Read more here.

Christopher Hill:  Christopher Hill, of Galva, is charged with battery of a Galva Police Officer following an incident that occurred at a bar in Galva.  Hill was released with restrictions.  He is not allowed to consume or possess drugs or alcohol, no contact with the victim, submit to random drug testing and be monitored by court services.  A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for November 6, 2023, at 1 PM.  Christopher Hill is charged with Aggravated Battery of a Police Officer (Class 2 Felony), Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor) and Domestic Battery/Physical Contact (Class A Misdemeanor).

Charles Doty:  Charles Doty, of Kewanee, waived his Preliminary Hearing and Formal Arraignment.  A Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for November 16, 2023, at 9 AM.  Charles Doty is charged with Aggravated Battery/Strangle (Class 3 Felony), Battery/Makes Physical Contact (Class A Misdemeanor) and Battery/Cause Bodily Harm (Class A Misdemeanor).

Dillon Schilling:  Dillon Schilling, of Galva, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after striking a utility pole on Midland Road.  A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for November 6, 2023, at 1 PM.  Schilling is charged with three counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol by Driver, Violation of Bail bond, Improper Lane Usage, Fail to Give Information after Striking vehicle or property and no seat belt.
