Defense Attorney, Aaron Dyer, asked for the name of the confidential source and Assistant State’s Attorney Katie Reynolds’s objected to the question because CS names are not released at Preliminary Hearings. Andrew Luce:  Andrew Luce remains in custody on a $100,000 (10%) bond.  Luce is charged with the shooting on South Grace Street on January 19th. Detective Michael Minx from the Kewanee Police Department testified about the evidence that traces back to Andrew Luce. The spent shell casings lead away from the residence towards Willow Street.  There was an Apple iPhone on the ground near the shell casings. The iPhone traces back to Andrew Luce. There was a call to the iPhone at the scene from Danny Stanley. Luce told police that Justin Stanley was the shooter and Justin Stanley told Police he had nothing to do with the shooting and was home at the time. Luce also said his phone was stolen a couple days prior to the shooting. Luce called his Parole Officer from the phone he claims was stolen. GPS on the phone put the phone at Kewanee Walmart and Luce was on camera at Walmart talking on the phone. GPS on the suspect phone left Luce’s residence and walked to the empty lot by the targeted house on South Grace Street. A garage converted into a bedroom was the target of the shooting. Police didn’t release that a garage was hit but, according to Detective Minx, Luce knew the garage was the target. The two people in the bedroom were not injured and said “The walls started shaking and stuff fell off the walls”. A Gun Shot Residue (GSR) test was conducted on Andrew Luce; However, GSR can be removed by actions such as washing hands, wiping clothing, or brushing it off, so the absence of residue does not prove that the person did not recently fire a gun.  Andrew Luce said to Detective Minx “there was no chemicals on me” before Judge Hathaway told Luce “not to speak”.  Probable Cause was found by Judge Hathaway.  A Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for February 23, 2023, at 9 AM.  Luce is charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm within 1000 feet from a school (Class X Felony) and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony) for 23CF24.  Read more here
