Equipment used for the demolition of the former Sirloin Stockade building is believed to be the source of the gas smell in Galesburg on Thursday. The Galesburg Police Department received multiple calls regarding a possible gas leak at the intersection of North Henderson and Carl Sandburg Drive. City Staff and Ameren crews were at the intersection and confirmed that there was not an active gas leak. City of Galesburg Staff contacted the contractor and made them aware of the issue.
