Former Correctional Officer at Henry Hill Correctional Center Charged with Smuggling Cell Phone to Inmate

A former Correctional Officer at the Henry Hill Correctional Center was charged in January with smuggling a cell phone to an inmate. The Henry Hill Correctional Center is a men’s medium security Illinois Department of Corrections facility in Galesburg. The Knox County State’s Attorney Office filed charges on January 18, 2023, and a warrant was issued, court records show the warrant was served on April 26th. Bond was set at $10,000 (10%) in January. There are no court dates appearing in Judici at the time of this writing. Melanie Cohill, 36, of Galesburg has been charged with Employee Delivering Weapon to Penal Institution (Class X Felony), Employee Possessing Weapon in Penal Institution (Class 1 Felony) and Official Misconduct (Class 3 Felony).

A Class X felony carries a potential prison sentence of six to 30 years, A Class 1 Felony carries a potential prison sentence of four to 15 years and a Class 3 felony carries a potential prison sentence two to five years.
