Galesburg “At Your Door Special Collection” Service Collection

SHARE NOW

The At Your Door Special Collection service is provided to residents in Galesburg as part of the residential refuse, recycling and yard waste program. The service collects hazardous materials and items that are hard to recycle and residents do not need to sign up for this program. This service makes it easy for residents to dispose of these items, by collecting the materials at the door – safely, easily, and responsibly. By collecting these items, the possibility of water pollution and environmental hazards can be reduced.

The At Your Door Special Collection service is focused on the collection of home-generated special materials, formerly called “household hazardous waste”. Acceptable items for collection include automotive products, automotive and household batteries, garden chemicals, household chemicals, paint products, electronics and syringes and sharps. A more detailed list of items eligible for collection can be found at www.WMATYOURDOOR.com. Most of the materials collected through this program are sent for recycling.

The program is easy to use, as participants simply contact the At Your Door service at any time, year-round to request a collection. There are three easy ways to schedule a collection: go to www.WMATYOURDOOR.com, call the toll-free number at 1-800-449-7587 (7 AM to 7 PM), or email [email protected].

Trained Waste Management staff will process the customer service requests. A service request must include the participant’s contact information, address, and an estimated list of the types and quantities of acceptable materials. Once the request is scheduled, the participant will be provided with a specific date for their home collection. A collection kit will be sent to the participant through the mail, and the resident is responsible for packaging the materials in the provided collection kit and placing it near the front door or garage on the scheduled collection day. Waste Management will pick up the item and transport it to their Peoria facility where items will be consolidated and shipped to appropriate recycling and processing facilities.
