Galesburg Fire Department Battled Two Fires on Friday Night

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to two structure fires on Friday night.  The Brooks Street Station crew responded to a fire at 750 E South Street just after 8 PM and located a small fire in the basement of the home.  Battalion Chief Brackett established command and fire crews made an initial attack from the exterior before entering the structure to extinguish the fire.  All occupants were able to evacuate the residence prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. The fire was confined to the basement of the home, which sustained heavy fire damage.  The interior of the home sustained minor smoke damage. Preliminary damage estimates are $10,000. No injuries were reported.

While en route to the South Street Fire, the Fremont Street Station crew was diverted for a second structure fire at 741 Monmouth Blvd. Off-duty fire personnel also responded to the fire. Upon arrival, a large fire was located in a detached garage at the rear of the residence. Captain James Pendergast established command and both crews made an exterior fire attack.  The fire was confined to the garage, with no damage to the nearby residence. Preliminary damage estimates are $18,000. No injuries were reported.  Galesburg Fire Investigators classified the cause of the fire to be undetermined. The investigation is still ongoing.  Off-duty fire personnel provided emergency coverage for the City of Galesburg.
