Galesburg Fire Department Battles Large Blaze Early Monday

The Galesburg Fire Department was called to the 100 Block of East North Street early Monday morning regarding a house on fire. The home at 120 East North Street was billowing black smoke and an intense fire was coming from the upper floor. As firefighters began battling the blaze, the fire began to spread to surrounding buildings. The home at 12o East North Street and a metal structure nearby were a complete loss by the time Galesburg Firefighters, off-duty firefighters, called in for back up, as well as the Knoxville Fire Department, called for added assistance, finally put the fire down. In all 26 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze which also destroyed vehicles, including an R.V.

One firefighter for the Galesburg Fire Department suffered burns to his hands and face but thankfully, he was able to be treated and released soon after. There was no indication that anyone in the home or the surrounding buildings were injured as Galesburg Firefighters were able to clear nearby residences as a precaution while they limited the fire damage as much a they could. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Galesburg Fire Department.
