The Galesburg Fire Department battled a fire at a residence on Garfield Avenue on Monday afternoon. According to information provided by the City of Galesburg, a 911 call initiated a response to a fire at 173 Garfield Avenue at approximately 12:03 PM on Monday, February 27th. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. At the scene, Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire emanating from the front corner of the two story building. Battalion Chief David Farrell established command and the Central Station crew extinguished the fire with an attack line. One person was at the residence at the time of the fire and was able to escape safely from the second floor to a deck. No injuries were reported. Damage to the residence was estimated by investigators at $10,000 with the most serious damage to the second floor. Investigators working with the Galesburg Fire Department are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
