    Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
    ADDITIONAL DETAILS
    Heat impacts will be worsened by several consecutive days of sweltering temperatures. Additionally, there will be little relief overnight with near record warm lows forecast in the mid to upper 70s.
    PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
    Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Galesburg Police Investigating Shooting that Injured one Person

Galesburg Police responded to a report of shots fired on October 8, 2023, around 4 AM, in the area of 197 Seminary Street.  According to the press release, officers found evidence of a shooting in the area but no gunshot victims were at the scene.  Soon after arriving on scene, Officers were dispatched to St. Mary’s Medical Center for a gunshot victim that was dropped at the emergency room.

According to the Galesburg Police, officers learned that a white Chrysler 300 had dropped off the gunshot victim at the emergency entrance and left. The victim of the gunshot was identified as Jonathan W. Straughter. Straughter was transferred to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

While officers were at St. Mary’s Medical Center, a white Chrysler 300 returned to the area of the emergency department. Officers identified the vehicle as the same vehicle that initially dropped off the victim.  The driver was identified as Paul Stingley. Further investigation into the incident resulted in the driver being charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. At this time, it is not believed that Stingley was involved in firing shots at the Seminary Street location. This investigation is currently ongoing.
