Galva Man Arrested when Pipe Bomb and Meth were Found During a Traffic Stop

A Galva man is in the Henry County Jail after a pipe bomb and methamphetamine were found in his possession during a traffic stop in Kewanee on April 25th in the 100 block of South Main Street.  Barry Cox, 58, of Galva remains in custody on a $250,000 (10%) bond after Kewanee Police found an explosive device, 8.8 grams of suspected Methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, digital scale, drug packaging and a small amount of Cannabis from a search of his person and the motor home he was driving.  Barry Cox was arrested and transported to the Henry County Jail.  Officers cordoned off the area around the motor home and contacted the Peoria Police Department Bomb Squad to evaluate and safely removed the pipe bomb.  The Peoria Bomb Squad confirmed the explosive device was a pipe bomb and rendered it safe to be secured as evidence.  A Preliminary Hearing is scheduled for May 8, 2023, at 1 PM.  A Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for May 11, 2023, at 9 AM, which was to be the Final Continuance on the older charges.

Barry Cox is charged with Possession of Meth 5<15 Grams (Class 2 Felony), Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Bomb/Bombshell/Grenade (Class 3 Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CF104.  Cox has cases 2022CF248 and 2022CF247 for charges of Delivery of Meth <5 Grams (Class 2 Felony) and Possession of Meth <5 Grams (Class 3 Felony) in both cases.
