A Galva man accepted a plea deal for five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for Possession of Meth. Barry Cox has been in custody of the Henry County Jail since his arrest in April for weapon and drug possession following a traffic stop in Kewanee. Cox pleaded guilty to Possession of Meth in three separate cases and the remaining counts are dismissed by the State. Barry Cox was sentenced to three concurrent IDOC sentences of five years plus fines and assessments. Barry Cox requested a recommendation to a drug treatment program through the Illinois Department of Corrections. Judge Terry Patton found that the offenses were committed as a result of drug addiction and granted the recommendation. Barry Cox has addressed the court regarding his addiction issues in the past. Mr. Cox must report to court within 180 days from release from IDOC to make payment arrangements.
Barry Cox was originally charged with Possession of Meth 5<15 Grams (Class 2 Felony), Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Bomb/Bombshell/Grenade (Class 3 Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CF104. Cox has cases 2022CF248 and 2022CF247 for charges of Delivery of Meth <5 Grams (Class 2 Felony) and Possession of Meth <5 Grams (Class 3 Felony) in both cases.
