The Illinois Waterway is to see a major advancement with the commencement of the Starved Rock Breakwater Project. A ceremony will kick off the first large-scale ecosystem restoration in the Illinois Waterway Ports Commission area in over 10 years on February 14, 2024. This significant project will improve habitats for migratory waterfowl and native fish species in the Starved Rock Pool. The scheme, worth $6.8 million, comes with high expectations from the Corn Belt Ports team for quick, innovative delivery by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The completion of this heralded venture is projected for October 2024.
