HCSO Places Two Deputies on Administrative Leave Following Shooting in Toulon

Two Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office were placed on paid administrative leave following the fatal officer-involved shooting in Toulon on Saturday.  Captain Ben Franklin said there are seven deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office on the Henry County Special Operations Squad (HCSOS).  The HCSOS is a multi-agency team of officers and deputies from Henry and Stark county law enforcement agencies. This team has existed for many years.

Following the incident in Toulon on February 18, 2022, The Henry County Sheriff’s Office has placed two Deputies on paid administrative leave, which is protocol following an incident like this.

On February 20, 2023, The Illinois State Police identified Rodney G Williams, 66, as the man fatally shot while police were executing a search/arrest warrant in Toulon.   If you would like to help with funeral expenses, here is the link to the goFundMe.

According to the Illinois State Police, Henry County Special Operations Squad was serving an arrest/search warrant at an apartment in the 500 block of North Olive Street when the occupant of the residence attempted to strike Officers with a machete. Officers discharged their weapons striking the male subject.  The male subject was transported to an area hospital where he was declared deceased. No officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and being handled by Illinois State Police, Division of Criminal Investigation.
