A member of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office took to Social Media on Wednesday night to address concerns regarding strange lights in the sky. According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, phone calls were received on Wednesday from citizens concerned about strange lights in the sky. In order to put the matter to rest, the Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook and explained that the strange lights were actually planets. Jupiter and Venus are in what is called Conjunction. This is when Venus appears to pass closely to Jupiter and each is aligned with the moon making each appear brighter in the night sky.

“We have had concerned citizens contact the Sheriff’s Office regarding strange lights or figures in the sky.
The bright objects in the western sky are actually planets. Jupiter and Venus to be exact. We hope this information helps.”

The post was accompanied by a graphic showing Conjunction 2023. Many in the social media post comments section were quick to mock those that made concerned calls to Police but with recent news regarding strange objects in the sky related to Chinese Spy Balloons, the post by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office was the right call to make. WKEI Reporter Jennifer Russell captured photos of the Conjunction that make clear that concerns about strange lights in the sky by citizens unaware of the common celestial phenomenon were not entirely unreasonable. It’s a very cool but fully explainable phenomenon.
