I-80 in Henry and Bureau Counties to Close Overnight Hours Nov. 29 to Dec. 2

Interstate 80 between Annawan and Highway 40 will be closed in both directions during the overnight hours from November 29, 2022, through December 2, 2022, for bridge demolition. The Illinois Department of Transportation said I-80 in Henry and Bureau Counties will close, weather permitting, to accommodate the demolition of 645 E Road Bridge near Sheffield. Eastbound traffic will be directed onto Highway 78 at Exit 33, east onto Highway 6 and back to I-80 on Highway 40. Westbound traffic will be directed onto Highway 40 at Exit 45, West on Highway 6 and back to I-80 on Highway 78. The closure will begin each night at 8 PM and open the following morning by 6 AM.

A second bridge at 470 E Road east of the Henry/Bureau County line will be demolished and replaced once the 645 E Road bridge is complete. Both bridge projects are expected to be completed by summer 2024.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 2,500 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Three of Rebuild Illinois included approximately $8.6 billion of improvements statewide on 4,422 miles of highway, 412 bridges, and 621 additional safety improvements.
