In Union County, Illinois, a State Police trooper’s response to a roadside emergency turned perilous when his squad car, parked with flashing lights, was hit by a motorist on Interstate 57. The incident, occurring late on April 23, resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for the trooper, who was assisting another motorist at the time. The car involved, driven by 59-year-old Kimberly Keser, led to her being cited for failing to adhere to the Move Over Law, which mandates drivers to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles. This law violation can attract hefty fines and even license suspension if injuries occur. This year alone has seen 14 such incidents, continuing a troubling trend from previous years. State Police are intensifying reminders about roadway safety and the critical importance of the Move Over Law.
