Illinois Sheriff’s Warn of Phone Scam Related to Attempt to Fight the Assault Weapons Ban

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association is warning in Illinois citizens regarding a phone scam happening across the state. According to information shared by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the scam involves someone calling Illinois residents and asking for donations on behalf of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association. The scammer claims that the money will be used in an effort to fight the recently passed Assault Weapons Bill that places new restrictions on the sale and ownership of so called Assault Style Weapons. The Illinois Sheriff’s Association is assuring the public that they do not solicit donations of any kind over the phone. Do not give money to anyone claiming to represent the Illinois Sheriff’s Association over the phone. Sheriff’s across Illinois, including Henry, Bureau, and Lasalle County have released statements in opposition to the Assault Weapons bill.
