In a recent incident on Interstate 55 in Will County, Illinois, a state trooper’s squad car, while handling another traffic crash, was struck by a motorist. The incident occurred when the trooper, with emergency lights activated, was stationary on the shoulder. The motorist, identified as Asante Williams, failed to adhere to the Move Over Law, resulting in a collision that sent the trooper to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. This year alone, Illinois State Police have reported multiple such incidents, highlighting ongoing risks despite the law’s requirement to slow down or move over for emergency vehicles. Violations can lead to hefty fines or license suspensions, particularly if they result in injury.
