Justin Stanley Gets a New Attorney and Waives Preliminary Hearing

Kewanee man arrested in connection to the South Grace Street shooting waived his Preliminary Hearing and Formal Arraignment on Thursday.  Justin Stanley, 18, of Kewanee was appointed his third Defense Attorney because Attorney Camp had a conflict and Attorney Rennick was not available.  Attorney Bruce Carmen was appointed as Stanley’s Defense attorney on February 8, 2023.  A Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for March 23. 2023, at 1 PM.  A search of the Stanley’s residence secured four handguns, one full-length shotgun, one sawed off shotgun, one 7.62 rifle, approximately 350 rounds of ammunition, multiple firearm magazines, 9.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 1.2 grams of suspected heroin, 104.7 grams of suspected cannabis, packaging materials, digital scales, a heat sealer for drug packaging, police scanners and a surveillance system.  A 9mm handgun with an extended magazine containing 27 rounds of ammunition was located on a chair with Stanley’s cell phone where methamphetamine was being packaged.

Justin Stanley remains in custody on a $175,000 (10%) bond.  Justin Stanley is charged with Armed Violence (Class X Felony), Five counts of Unlawful Possession of Firearm without a valid FOID card (Class A Misdemeanor), Aggravated Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (Class X Felony), Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance within 500 feet of a School (Class X Felony), Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine (Class 1 Felony), Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 2 Felony), Unlawful Possession of Weapon (Class 3 Felony), Unlawful Possession of Cannabis (Class 4 Felony) and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony).  Read more here.
