A 6-year-old child suffered a gunshot wound to the hand after gaining access a handgun in their residence. According to the Kewanee Police Department, Kewanee Police responded to the 400 block of Rice Street around 7 AM for a possible gunshot victim. Witnesses told officers that a vehicle had just left the area at a high rate of speed. After receiving information regarding a private vehicle transporting a gunshot victim to the hospital, Officers discovered a 6-year-old child with a gunshot wound at OSF St. Luke Medical Center. The 6-year-old child suffered a gunshot wound to the left hand after finding the handgun in the residence and discharging one round to their left hand. Kewanee Police Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians assisted Officers gather statements and execute a search warrant to collect evidence on the residence in the 400 block of Rice Street.
