The City of Kewanee has officially announced that though a burn ban and a fireworks ban will remain in place, the professional fireworks shows planned for Saturday, January 1st and Tuesday, July 4th are approved to go ahead. On Thursday afternoon, the City of Kewanee released a statement indicating that City officials had met with the pyrotechnics professionals who will be handling the holiday Fireworks displays and came to the agreement that the City would let the fireworks shows go forward. Fans of Fireworks can enjoy two shows, one on Saturday, July 1st, Cernovich’s Fireworks at 24667 Red Adams Road at Dusk, and the annual Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Fireworks Show on July 4th in Northeast Park at Dusk.
That said, City officials reiterated that all other fireworks as well as any burning of materials remains banned in the City limits while drought conditions remain. Despite Thursday afternoon rain storms that came through the area, drought conditions continue to affect much of Central Illinois.
