Kewanee Man Busted by the DEA with 10,000 Fentanyl Pills Arrested on Warrant

The Kewanee man busted by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Kewanee Police Department last year for delivery of approximately 10,000 Fentanyl pills was arrested on the warrant issued when he failed to appear for his June 15, 2022 hearing.  Juan Montemayor, 31, of Kewanee posted $50,000 bond on May 18th and has a Preliminary Hearing scheduled for June 12, 2023, at 2 PM, originally scheduled for May 22nd.  Montemayor posed $30,000 bond in June of 2022 and was released but he failed to appear for his court date scheduled for the next day.  Judge James Cosby issued a $500,000 bond warrant for Montemayor, with bond forfeiture and US extradition.  The $30,000 bond forfeiture was granted on July 26, 2022, when Montemayor failed to appear at the bond hearing.

Montemayor is charged with Manufacture/Deliver 900+ Grams Fentanyl (Class X Felony), Possession of a Gun by a Felon (Class 3 Felony) and Aggravated Unlawful Use of A Weapon (Class 4 Felony) for case 2022CF188, Aggravated Battery/Public Place (Class 3 Felony) and Battery/Makes Physical Contact (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2021CF340 plus various driving violations.
