A Kewanee man was arrested for battery from the same incident where a Chicago man is charged with shooting two people.  Jequann Johnson, 29, of Kewanee was arrested on October 1, 2023, and charged with battery and mob action from a disturbance that occurred prior to the shooting.  According to Kewanee Police, Johnson allegedly arrived in the 400 block of North Lakeview Avenue intending to fight with a specific individual.  During this same time, Javon Porter, of Chicago, allegedly shot two people and was later arrested at a residence in Kewanee.  It is unknown what the connection is between Johnson and Porter or if there is a connection.  Johnson was originally released from custody with pre-trial restrictions, including no contact with the victims, but he is back in the custody of the Henry County Jail.  A Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for November 16, 2023, at 1 PM.

Jequann Johnson is charged with Obstruct Justice/Destroy Evidence (Class 4 Felony), Aggravated Battery/Great Bodily Harm (Class 3 Felony) and Mob Action (Class 4 Felony).
