A 71-year-old Kewanee man was in court on March 28, 2023, facing charges for Criminal Sexual Abuse, Grooming and Aggravated Assault. Gerald D. Finin waived his Preliminary Hearing and Formal Arraignment on April 3rd and remains in custody on a $50,000 (10%) bond. Finin is alleged to have committed Criminal Sexual Abuse by Force when he grabbed a woman’s breast between March 29th and May 26th, 2021. Finin is charged with two counts of Grooming when he allegedly touched a minor female on two occasions while allegedly enticing the minor female to engage in sexual acts between July 10th and July 31st, 2021. Finin is charged with Aggravated Battery in a Public Place when he allegedly grabbed a women a woman by the hips in Kewanee Walmart on November 20, 2022. At his bond hearing, the Defense witness testified that Mr. Finin is an alcoholic and has blackouts from his drinking. The witness testified that Mr. Finin’s family was ready to stage an intervention and get Mr. Finin into a rehabilitation facility if released from custody. Judge James Cosby said that Mr. Finin could remain alcohol free in the custody of the Henry County Jail and approved the State’s request for $50,000 bond. Mr. Finin grew visibly upset and said “I don’t belong here”. A family member of Gerald Finin said he couldn’t commit the acts he is charged with and that he would give you the shirt off his back. A Jury Pre-trial is scheduled for April 20, 2023, at 9 AM.
Gerald Finin is charged with Criminal Sexual Abuse/Force (Class 4 Felony) for case 2023CF75, two counts Grooming (Class 4 Felony) for case 2023CF76 and Aggravated Battery/Public Place (Class 3 Felony) for case 2023CF77.
