Kewanee man goes to trial for Arson after he demands a Speedy Trial in court on October 24, 2022. Ronald Calloway, 34, of Kewanee will have a Bench Trial with Judge Terry Patton on November 17, 2022, beginning at 9 AM. Under the Speedy Trial rules, the State has until December 9th to go to trial but Calloway objected to any continuances and demaded a trial date be set for as soon as possible. Mr. Calloway also instructed his attorney, Matthew Paulson, to identify everyone in the courtroom during his Final Pre-Trial.
According to the Kewanee Police Department, on August 11, 2022, around 3:32 AM, the Kewanee Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1100 block of Rose Street for a residential fire. Officers and Fire Fighters observed a fire on the west side of the residence with evidence that the fire was started from outside the house. Officers and Arson Investigators gathered statements and collected evidence from the scene that led to Ronald Calloway being the prime suspect. Detectives from the Kewanee Police Department conducted an arson investigation of the next several weeks, which led to more evidence against the prime suspect, Ronald Calloway. The State’s Attorney reviewed the case and officially charged Ronald Calloway with Arson (Class 1 Felony) and Residential Arson (Class 2 Felony)
