The Kewanee Police Department invites the public to celebrate “National Night Out” with them on August 1, 2023, from 5 to 9 PM at Northeast Park. Swimming is free from 6 to 8 PM at the Oasis Pool. You can enjoy free food, plus cotton candy and Demonstrations by the Kewanee Police and Fire Departments. The Kewanee Police will be live on-air very soon to talk about their National Night Out event. National Night Out is on the first Tuesday of August each year. National Night Out was created to cultivate the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a sense of community. “it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances. National Night Out was introduced in August of 1984 through a network of law enforcement, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the country. The first annual National Night Out campaign involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.
Neighborhoods across the nation now host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and more.
