Kewanee Police and Fire Departments held the first National Night Out celebration for Kewanee on Tuesday and residents showed up to support the Police and have fun.  Catie Griffin was the lucky winner of the PlayStation 5, watch the drawing here. The Kewanee Police Department demonstrated the shooting simulator, which is shared between Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Colona Police, Geneseo Police, Black Hawk Police and Kewanee Police Departments.  The Virtual Reality shooting simulator provides life-like training for officers by placing them in different situations, while using their own service weapon.  The barrel of their gun is replaced with a light barrel and a camera, attached to a computer, picks up the light for an accurate reading.  Adults and children enjoyed the free swim and the K9 demonstrations by K9 Handler, Josh Carpenter, and K9 Maverick.  K9 Maverick appeared to love all the attention he received from kids and adults.  Watch the bite sleeve demonstration here and watch K9 Maverick hunt for his toy here.  The Kewanee Fire Department demonstrated how to start an IV on a Patient and airway management techniques, such as how to intubate a patient.  The fire department had the ladder fire truck at the event so kids got to explore the ladder truck.  Proceeds from the raffle support the Kewanee Police Department Community Policing Initiative.
