Kewanee Sales Tax Revenue Rises Again, 6 Year in a Row

For the sixth consecutive year, Sales Tax Revenue in the City of Kewanee went up. Numbers released by the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce, covering the fourth and final quarter of 2023, show a rise in revenue for the year of 3.8%. That comes after a fourth quarter of 2023 that generated Retail sales of more than $67 million dollars. Overall, 2023 in Kewanee saw retail sales over more than $260 million dollars for the full year. According to the Chamber numbers, General Merchandise sales were up 4.2%, Food sales up 16%, Drinking & Eating Places up 5.1%, Apparel up 29%, and Small Retail up 7.9%. Lumber and Building Supplies and Automotive sales were even with 2022 sales. As mentioned it’s the 6th straight year of increased sales tax revenue in the City of Kewanee but it is also the third consecutive year of record high retail sales numbers.
