A Head-on collusion in rural Neponset in Bureau County forever changed the life of 27-year-old Cody Bennett on May 19, 2022. Around 8:50 PM on May 19th, Bureau County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a head-on accident on 750 North in rural Neponset. Dhnae Jackson, 22, of Kewanee allegedly crossed the center line and struck the vehicle driven by Cody Bennett of Kewanee head-on. Cody Bennett was transported to a Peoria Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Bureau County Sheriff report listed Transportation of alcohol, improper lane usage and operating uninsured motor vehicle as violations involved in the injury accident. Cody Bennett spent months in the hospital and rehabilitation center for surgeries and physical rehabilitation and returned home to Kewanee on August 18, 2022, where the community welcomed him home. On October 24, 2022, Kewanee Police arrested Dhnae Jackson on a Bureau County Warrant for two counts of Aggravated DUI and transported her to the Henry County Jail. Chief Deputy Taylor, of the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed to RegionalMediaNews that the warrant stemmed from the May 19th accident.
On October 5, 2022, two counts of Aggravated DUI/Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony) were filed and an indictment for each count was returned on October 14th for case 2022CF59. Jackson had her First Appearance on October 26, 2022, where she pleaded Not Guilty and demanded a Jury Trial. Jackson remains in custody of the Bureau County Jail on a $50,000 (10%) bond. Dhnae Jackson entered an oral motion to reduce bond. A bond review hearing is scheduled for October 28, 2022, at 10 AM. Jackson is prohibited from consuming illegal drugs or alcohol as part of her bond conditions. A Final Pre-Trial Conference is scheduled for December 28, 2022, at 10 AM and a Jury Trial is scheduled for January 23, 2023, at 9 AM. Watch for an update here on Friday after the bond review hearing.
