Male Shot Twice in Kewanee Sunday Night in Stable Condition in Peoria

A male shot in Kewanee during a disturbance at a residence is in stable condition in a Peoria hospital. Around 6:30 PM on Sunday, OSF Saint Luke Hospital notified the Kewanee Police Department of an individual in the Emergency Room suffering from two gunshot wounds, one to his lower left abdomen and the other to his right shoulder. The male was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria by LifeFlight and is in stable condition. He provided a statement to Kewanee Police on Monday, February 27, 2023.

Around the same time as the call from Kewanee Hospital, The Kewanee Police Department responded to
a residence in the 200 block of East 6th Street regarding a shooting.  According to the release, the homeowner told Police Officers he discharged a firearm after being involved in a disturbance on his property. Officers observed evidence relating to the shooting at the residence.  Crime scene technicians arrived at the residence and photographed and collected shell casings, two firearms and other pieces of evidence.  Kewanee Police Department detectives interviewed witnesses, the involved parties and the homeowner.  The homeowner has a valid FOID card and a concealed carry license at the time of the incident.  

Through the investigation, detectives identified two additional persons of interest involved in the incident.  According to the press release, both individuals arrived at the residence in the 200 block of East 6th Street with the subject that was shot.  Both subjects contacted the Kewanee Police Department on Monday and provided statements to detectives.

No charges have been filed at the time of this release and the incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be provided as the investigation develops.
