Marcus Smith, 20, of Galesburg plead guilty to Count 1 of Possession of Ammunition by a Felon on Monday, February 27, 2023, that sends him to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for four years. Smith got four years in IDOC followed by six months of Mandatory Supervised Release, Credit for time served and will pay the $1049 fine by April 30, 2025. The remaining two counts are dismissed by the State.
Marcus Smith was walking with Jeffery Hollingsworth in the 200 block of Willard Street when Hollingsworth pointed a gun at a vehicle driving by them. Both suspects fled on foot when Police arrived in the area, Smith was charged for possession of Ammunition and Cannabis in his backpack. Marcus Smith was originally charged with Unlawful Possession of Ammunition by a Felon (Class 2 Felony), Possession of 30-100 grams of Cannabis (Class A Misdemeanor) and Resisting a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor).
