Long time Kewanee historian and one of the driving forces behind the Kewanee Historical Society, Mike DeWalt has been chosen as this year’s Grand Marshal for the Kewanee Hog Days Parade. The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce made the announcement on Monday afternoon. From the Chamber Press Release…
“The Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club has announced that Mike DeWalt has been named 2023 Hog Days Parade Marshal. After 36 years with Caterpillar, the 1976 Kewanee High School graduate retired in 2017 as the vice-president of Financial Services. After retirement Mike started volunteering for the Kewanee Historical Society and became president in 2019. During his short tenure with the Historical Society he has improved the many holdings of the Museum and was the person taking the lead in the new Historical Society building in downtown Kewanee. It is for this major undertaking for the city of Kewanee the Ambassador Club is naming Mike the 2023 Hog Days Parade Marshal.”
Mike has taken a keen interest in digitizing the Kewanee Historical Society, furthering efforts to preserve Kewanee History. The Kewanee Hog Days Parade will step off at 2 PM on Saturday, September 2nd, Hog Days Weekend. Meanwhile, if you would like to join Mike DeWalt and be featured in the Hog Days Parade, you have until the end of business on Monday, August 21st, 2023, to register your float or other type of entry with the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce. The parade theme is “Hog Days: The Feeling Never Gets Old ” and entries are encouraged to utilize this theme. Prizes will be awarded in several entry categories for those participating in the Hog Days Parade.
