In Moline, Illinois, a tense standoff ended peacefully yesterday as 27-year-old Cayne Wilford surrendered to police after barricading himself in a garage with a firearm. The incident began around 11:30 AM when authorities were alerted to a domestic disturbance. Police swiftly secured the area, deploying negotiators who engaged with Wilford for about three hours. The situation escalated briefly when Wilford discharged his firearm inside the garage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Wilford, now facing charges of aggravated assault and aggravated discharge of a firearm, is detained at Rock Island County Jail awaiting a pretrial detention hearing.

From Police Chief Darren Gault:

“This has been an extremely tense and difficult day in the city of Moline. The challengesstarted early this morning as our officers working the midnight shift responded to a homicide scene. Several of those officers then responded back to work a few hours later to assist on this incident because they had specialized skills and training on various teams in the police department. Our resources were stretched thin today, but the officers working in Moline are incredibly talented and dedicated to serving the community. I’m grateful for their hard work, training and dedication to serve with such professionalism. I’m especially thankful for the long hours many of them worked today. From patrol officers to detectives, crisis negotiators to tactical team members and our telecommunicators at QCOMM911, everyone pitched in and performed valiantly,” said Chief Darren Gault
