Residents in the area of 4th Avenue in Moline were briefly evacuated from their homes on Friday night follow reports of a structure fire at the LP Sims Gas Corporation located at 2607 4th Avenue. Moline Fire Department was dispatched to the location at approximately 8:22 PM on Thursday night. “The first arriving fire company entered the building in attempts to extinguish the fire. The fire company withdrew from the interior shortly after. Fire Command on scene determined the threat from the LP cylinders was high and a defensive attack was initiated. Two (2) elevated ladder towers and ground monitors were used to control and ultimately extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control in approximately two (2) hours with fire crew’s remaining on-scene for four (4) hours completing overhaul and looking for hidden fire still burning.”
Residents in the immediate surrounding area were briefly evacuated with the help of Moline Police Department which also helped to cordon off the area from incoming traffic while Moline Fire Department battled the blaze. “Initial Moline Fire response included seventeen (17) on-duty personnel occupying four (4) engine companies, a command vehicle and two (2) ambulances. Three (3) off-duty Chief Officers, Fire Marshal and Training Officer responded to assist with scene and City coverage during the event.” That from the Moline Fire Department.
Moline Fire Department was aided in fighting the blaze by East Moline Fire Department, Rock Island Fire Department, Arsenal Fire Department, Silvis Fire Department, Coal Valley Fire Department, Bettendorf Fire Department and AMT Ambulance provided further assistance.
