Morrison Man that Pointed a Gun at Police During Search Warrant Shot by SWAT


Illinois State Police SWAT shoot armed suspect while executing a search warrant in Morrison, Illinois. The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Internal Investigation continues to investigate the officer involved shooting that happened on October 21, 2022, when ISP SWAT assisted the Blackhawk Area Task Force execute a search warrant in the 600 block of North Cherry Street. Officers heard what they believed to be gunshots upon entry into the residence. During a search of the house, officers encountered an armed male subject that pointed a firearm at officers and an ISP officer shot the suspect. The armed suspect shot by police is identified as Aaron Linke, 48, of Morrison. Officers immediately provided emergency medical aid and called for an ambulance. Linke was transported to the hospital where he remained on life support until October 25, 2022. Linke was declared brain dead on October 22nd. Officers continued to search the home after Linke was transported to the hospital and found a female with a gunshot wound in a different room. The female was transported to an area hospital. Her name is not being released at this time because she is considered a witness. The search warrant for for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and Possession of Contraband in a Penal Institution. While processing the scene, officers recovered several firearms.  Linke has several open cases for charges related to Drugs and Weapon by a Felon in Whiteside County.

In accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act (50 ILCS 727) and the Illinois State Police Law (20 ILCS 2605), Special Agents of the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation are investigating these events.

This investigation is open and ongoing. ISP is currently processing evidence and conducting interviews. Upon completion of the investigation, all evidence and facts will be submitted for review to the Whiteside County State’s Attorney’s Office. No additional information is available at this time.
