No Injuries in A Large Warehouse Fire that Damaged Construction Equipment

There were no injuries in a commercial structure fire early morning June 16, 2023, but commercial construction equipment was heavily damaged from the fire. All three stations from the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a large warehouse located at 561 McClure Street around 5:20 AM. Fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from the eaves of the building and began an attack on the fire. Acting Battalion Chief, Brock Schmitt, established command the Central Station crew made entry to extinguish the fire. The Fremont Street Station set up the ariel ladder to access the roof and perform vertical ventilation. The Brooks Street Station provided a water supply and perorm horizontal ventilation.

There were no occupants inside the building at the time of the fire. The fire caused heavy fire damage to commercial construction equipment inside the building and smoke and water damage throughout. The sprinkler system did not activate at the time of the fire. Preliminary damage estimates are at $150,000. An emergency callback of off duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Galesburg Fire Investigators.
