Barry Cox: Barry Cox, 58, of Galva remains in custody on a $250,000 (10%) bond. Detective Andrew Kingdom, from the Kewanee Police Department, testified that on April 25, 2023, around 9 PM, Officer Lang conducted a traffic stop on a recreational vehicle (RV) because the license plate light was out. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Barry Cox and he told Officers that he purchased the RV two week earlier. Officer Lang was assisted by Officer Sherbeyn, Sergeant Reed and K9 Handler, Sergeant Peed. K9 Roscoe was requested to conduct a free-air sniff of the RV. K9 Roscoe alerted to the scent of an illegal substance, which provided probable cause to search the vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was found in the RV and a white substance found field tested positive for methamphetamine. The Peoria Bomb Squad was called after officers found a homemade explosive device in the RV, which the bomb squad identified as a pipe bomb. In total, Barry Cox had 8.8 grams of methamphetamine and a small amount of cannabis. Cox gave two bags of suspected meth to officers prior to a body search. Judge Patton found Probable Cause and a Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for June 15, 2023, at 9 AM. Barry Cox is charged with Possession of Meth 5<15 Grams (Class 2 Felony), Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Bomb/Bombshell/Grenade (Class 3 Felony) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 2023CF104. Cox has cases 2022CF248 and 2022CF247 for charges of Delivery of Meth <5 Grams (Class 2 Felony) and Possession of Meth <5 Grams (Class 3 Felony) in both cases. Read more here.
Christopher Richardson: Christopher Richardson, 18, of Kewanee waived his Preliminary Hearing and Formal Arraignment. He plead Not Guilty and a Jury Pre-Trial is scheduled for June 15, 2023, at 9 AM. Richardson is charged with Criminal Damage to Property <$500 (Class A Misdemeanor) for case 23CM35 and Aggravated Battery/Pregnant/Disabled (Class 3 Felony) for case 23CF107.
