At a House Republican press conference at the Illinois capitol today, House Republican Deputy Leader Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) addressed the current fiscal situation in the state of Illinois
The first extensive look at next year’s state finances from the Governor’s own Office of Management and Budget, projects a shortfall of $3.2 billion dollars for fiscal year 2026, showing that the state’s ability to fund new programs will be severely limited.
Leader Hammond said as the minority party, House Republicans will continue to hold Democrat leadership accountable. She said that given all the fiscal pressures, House Republicans are once again calling on Democrat leaders to “work with us in good faith to negotiate and pass a fiscally responsible, truly balanced state budget next year.
