Resident Jumps from Second-Story Window to Escape a House Fire in Galesburg

A Galesburg resident jumped from a second-story window to escape smoke and flames from a early morning fire on September 20, 2023.  Around 4:28 AM, the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Mulberry Street.  Fire personnel arrived to see flames at the exterior of the two-story home.  Battalion Chief Dave Farrell established command at the scene and the Brooks Street Fire Crew located the fire and quickly extinguished the fire in a stairway.  The interior and exterior of the home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. No injuries were reported. Damage estimates to the house have not yet been determined.

The fire is under investigation by Galesburg Fire Department Investigators.
