A Rock Island man is in jail for burglary and assaulting a Police Officer in Kewanee Sunday night. On September 3, 2023, the Kewanee Police Department received a report of a male subject breaking a front window at Reiman’s Harley Davidson on North Main Street.  The suspect left out the back door of the business and encountered a patrol officer in the alley. The Officer commanded the suspect to turn around and put his hands behind his back but the suspect jumped the officer, striking the officer with multiple punches.  The officer was able to gain control of the suspect as other officers arrived on the scene to assist. One officer deployed his Taser during the altercation. Lucas Owen, 42, of Rock Island was placed under arrest and transported to OSF Saint Luke Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries from climbing through the broken window.  Ambulance personnel treated the initial officer who was assaulted for minor scratches and swelling near his left eye.  Scott Packee thanked Kewanee Police and the Henry County Sheriff’s office for their quick response on his Facebook page.  Scott Packee, along with his father Dennis Packee, own Reiman’s Harley Davidson.

After being released from OSF St. Luke Hospital, Owens was transported to the Henry County Jail on preliminary charges of Criminal Damage to Property (Class A Misdemeanor), Burglary (Class 2 Felony), Resisting a Peace Officer (Class B Misdemeanor), Criminal Trespass to Real Property (Class B Misdemeanor), Driving on a Revoked License (Class A Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony), Aggravated DUI (Class 4 Felony), and Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer (Class 2 Felony).
