Rodney Smith Takes Plea for Battery of Juvenile Niece and Elderly Grandmother

Rodney Smith accepts a plea that allows him to go home today with time served and probation.  The plea was accepted by Judge Colby Hathaway on January 20, 2023.  Rodney Smith was charged for an August Incident where he allegedly punched his 11-year-old niece in the face and a September incident for the alleged battery of his elderly grandmother on Kewanee City Hall Steps.  Rodney Smith pleaded guilty to Counts 1 and 3 for case 2022CF241 and Count 1 for case 2022CF287, the remaining counts are dismissed by the State.

For the assault on his minor niece, Rodney Smith receives 90 days in jail, 30 months probation, Credit for Time Served (CTS), $1,000 fine plus assessments, Submit Blood and Saliva samples, Obtain Anger Management Evaluation and Recommended Treatment and Register as a Violent Offender against Youth for Count 1.  For Count 3, Smith received 48 hours in jail, 24 months Conditional Discharge and CTS.

For the battery of his grandmother, Rodney Smith receives, 180 days in jail with Day-for-Day Credit, CTS, $1,000 fine plus assessments, Obtain Anger Management Evaluation and Recommended Treatment and have no contact or abusive contact with the victim.  All dispositions run concurrent so Smith was released Friday.
