The Kewanee Fire Department wants the public to know they are closely watching the Boiler Shop fire. The Kewanee Fire Department said in a Facebook post that they understand the inconvenience from the smoke and that the public’s safety is their top priority.  The Fire Department has determined the safest option is to allow the remaining fires in the rubble to burn out by themselves due to the condition of the building and the surrounding area.  Here is the full statement:  “We have been fielding a number of inquiries in regards to the Boiler Factory building. First and foremost, know that the public’s safety is our number one priority. We also have to protect ourselves and equipment so that we are able to protect all of you. Unfortunately, due to the condition of the building and surrounding area, we are unable to fully extinguish the fire. The best course of action at this time is to allow the hidden pockets still burning time to burn themselves out. We understand that this may inconvenience residents in the general area; rest assured we are closely monitoring the situation.”
