The City of Silvis has challenged neighboring communities to a “Rock Challenge”, where the community with the longest Rock Snake in the Quad City Area will win. Silvis challenged Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Milan, Coal Valley, Hampton, Port Bryon, Carbon Cliff, Colona, Geneseo and Cordova to join them to encourage their residents to come together for a fun project while also supporting an important cause to each community. Silvis residents can support the Silvis Food Bank by sponsoring the Rock Snake by donating a minimum of $5 per foot of Rock Snake. The Rock Snake Challenge begins on July 1, 2023, and ends July 31st. Silvis Mayor, Matt Carter, said “I encourage other cities and townships to accept the challenge and to also find a charitable cause in their communities”.

Here are some simple rules to this challenge.
1. Every rock must be painted. More color the better.
2. Painted rocks must be no larger than 7” in diameter.
3. No words or phrases deemed inappropriate will be allowed to be painted on the rocks.
4. The rock must be free of any political slogans, phrase and religious neutral.

If you accept our challenge, please email the City of Silvis to join the challenge and the location of your Rock Snake. At the end of the challenge each Rock Snake will be measured to determine which city has the longest Rock Snake in the Illinois Quad Cities Area! “Good Luck! And may the best municipality win!”
