State Representative Ryan Spain, one of two Deputy Republican Leaders in the Illinois House, officially launched his re-election bid for his 73rd District Illinois House seat this week.
“As we have finally seen justice served this year, I was proud to be one of three Republican legislators to convene the House Special Investigating Committee to uncover the actions of Michael Madigan and remove the stain of corruption in our state government. Even with a new Illinois Speaker, I remain committed to resolving the challenges in our state and delivering for families who want nothing more than to raise their children and grandchildren and see better opportunities in Illinois,” said Spain, who will seek the Republican party’s nomination in the March 17, 2026 Primary Election.
“I have eagerly led the fight in the Illinois House against a new Service Tax and fought against gerrymandering, in favor of Fair Maps. In doing so, my belief in our need for more unbiased courts has also grown and led to my filing legislation to create new ethics laws and conduct guidelines for Illinois Supreme Court justices, as well. Voters in downstate Illinois deserve strong conservative leaders to thoughtfully and strategically go to bat against the flawed policies which have driven our state into the ground.”
Spain, a top Republican policymaker, has led the way to tackle the high cost of prescription drugs through reforms to middle-man Pharmacy Benefits Managers and assistance for small town community pharmacies. His legislation will lower the costs of prescriptions and ensure rebates are delivered to patients and their health plans. Spain serves as the Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, a vital leadership position that improves legislation and serves as a check and balance against the JB Pritzker administration.
Spain graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a double degree in political science and speech communication and Bronze Tablet Honors. Spain also earned an MBA from Bradley University. In April 2007, Spain was elected to the Peoria city council as the youngest at-large member in its history, a seat he held until fall of 2016. Spain and his wife Ashley have two school-aged daughters.
Spain has received high marks for his voting record from the Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Tooling & Manufacturing Association, Leading Age Illinois, Illinois Health Care Association and more. He was named a Champion of Free Enterprise by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and was awarded the 2018 Leadership Award for improving telehealth policy from the Illinois Telehealth Initiative. He was recently awarded the Illinois Credit Union Legislator of the Year and Illinois Ambulance Association Legislator of the Year.
Spain serves as an expert in the House Republican caucus on healthcare policy, economic development, redistricting, election integrity and ethics reform.
The 73rd District consists of parts of Bureau, Henry, Lee, Marshall, Peoria, Rock Island, Stark, Whiteside and Woodford counties.
