A Spring Valley man has been arrested after he allegedly shot his Uncle during an altercation in Putnam County. The shooting occurred on Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:52 PM. At that time, Police in Putnam County received a 911 call about a man who had been shot outside of his h0me located at 2 Walnut Drive in Lake Thunderbird, Putnam County, Illinois. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the call and found 64 year old Jack D. Carpenter lying motionless in the driveway of the home. Life saving measures were attempted by responding Police and EMS but soon after Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene.
A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of 26 year old Joshua A. Aalders of Spring Valley, identified as the nephew of Mr. Carpenter. In the course of their investigation, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office located a weapon they believe was used in the shooting. Aalders was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. Aalders is being held at the Putnam County Jail during this initial investigation. Putnam County Sheriff’s Office believe that this was a singular instance and that with the arrest of Joshua A. Aalders, there is no threat to the public.
