The Colona man charged with the first degree murder of his 14-month-old daughter in January of 2022 appeared in court on Friday, March 10, 2023. Rahsaan Strawder remains in custody on a $1,000,000 (10%) bond. At the Status Hearing on March 10th, State’s Attorney Runty submitted a Motion for Collection of DNA, which was granted by Judge Daniel Dalton. Defense Attorney Lance Camp requested a Motion to Continue because there are issues regarding the case he needs to discuss with Mr. Strawder and State’s Attorney Runty. Mr. Camp said the Defense can be ready for trial in two to three months. A Status Hearing will be scheduled by court administration for 45-60 days out. In December of 2022, Defense Attorney Camp said that a plea deal with the State was unlikely and intended to have a Jury Trial in May.
Rahsaan Strawder is charged with 2 counts of First Degree Murder (Class M Felony), 2 counts of Aggravated Batter to a child under 13 (Class X Felony) and Aggravated Battery (Amended to Class 3 Felony). Mr. Strawder is alleged to have battered a 14 month female child causing her death on January 27, 2022.
