55 kids brought their stuffed toys to the first Teddy Bear Hospital event at Black Hawk College. The event, a partnership with the Kewanee Animal Shelter and acted as a fundraiser for the shelter, gave Black Hawk College Vet Tech students the chance to interact with kids and teach them about what Vet Techs do. “It was amazing to hear all the stories about how their animals were sick or injured,” said Janet Johnson, veterinary technology program director. The event included weight check stations, X-Rays, Bandaging, Heart Rate Checks, Prescriptions, Surgery Prep and Surgery on the stuffed animal friends with all of the work overseen by Black Hawk College Vet Tech students. The free event was in partnership with the Kewanee Animal Shelter. Children and their families brought items such as dog treats, cat treats, paper towels, bleach and garbage bags to donate to the shelter. The BHC Veterinary Technology Program is accepting applications for Fall 2023 and will host an open house Friday, Feb. 17 from 1-4 p.m. at the East Campus, 26230 Black Hawk Road, Galva.
